Eggs are a hero food for ketogenic, Paleo, and Whole30 eaters, and now thanks to Chicago-based startup, Quevos, they’re taking up a totally new form: chips. On the surface, it may sound like a gimmicky way to capitalize on the diet-of-the-moment, but they actually seem legit good for you.
Though the list of ingredients isn’t on Quevos’ website yet (a major bummer, since even veggie chips can be surprisingly unhealthy), here’s what’s public knowledge: One serving has only 2 grams of carbs and packs 20 grams of protein. That’s enough to make them perfect for your gym bag—not just to add some crunch to your sandwich.
Impressed? So was Kraft Heinz, which has chosen to nurture and grow the company through its platform Springboard. “We are excited to kick off our program with a group of great founders, amazing, and purposeful products, that we wholeheartedly believe will succeed in the marketplace,” Springboard general manager Sergio Eleuterio says of Quevos and the four other startups chosen to be part of the platform. What comes next is four months of guidance from the mega food brand, including a funding plan.
All five of the Springboard picks are health-conscious brands. The others include sauerkraut brand Cleveland Kraut, South African high-quality beef jerky brand Ayoba-Yo, Kumana and its Venezuelan-inspired avocado sauce, and Poppilu, which made a healthy lemonade alternative made from Aronia berries. (Yes to everything, please!)
The winners reflect just how much mega companies are paying attention to the health trends consumers are into. (Keto! Avocados! Low-sugar!) What you choose to buy and put into your body really does have an impact on the healthy foods that are available. Buying power, people—it’s real and it’s good.
